HIGH SCHOOL COMPREHENSIVE TEST
(ARCHIVE ONLY)

Note: This web page is only an archive. This assessment was eliminated effective with the 2009-10 school year.

In order to meet the federal Title I regulations required in the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001, the high school comprehensive test was previously a statewide mandate for all tenth grade students as a component of the North Carolina Testing Program effective with the 2002-2003 school year.

Effective the 2004-05 school year for grade 10, Algebra I and a combination of the end-of-course English I and the grade 10 writing assessment will be used in place of the North Carolina High School Comprehensive Tests of Reading and Mathematics. As appropriate, the United States Department of Education will allow a small number of students to continue being assessed on the North Carolina High School Comprehensive Tests of Reading and Mathematics (or their alternate assessments) to report AYP per federal NCLB requirements.
