Event Sponsor: Higher Education Institution
Event Type: Seminar/Workshop
Primary Category: Teachers
Event Dates: 7/31/2014 through 8/1/2014
Brief Description: 12 hours, 1.2 CEUs available.
Games are motivational; they can be used in centers, with small groups, or as a class activity. This workshop focuses on games and routines appropriate for the grade levels. The activities support the Common Core Standards and the Standards for Mathematical Practices by providing students with practice that leads to high levels of automaticity with number facts and routine procedures.
Tery Gunter and Judy Rucker will lead this workshop that offers teachers new ways to bring the big ideas of mathematics to their students, allowing deeper understanding of concepts. Ms. Gunter has devoted 30 years to elementary education and is an Elementary Mathematics Specialist. Ms. Rucker is a Mathematics Consultant with 30+ years’ experience. Both served as district leaders for a National Science Foundation project in Durham Public Schools and have been consultants for the Partners and Tap Math mathematics-‐science partnership grants.
Registration is first come first served. The registration fee includes all materials and lunch on workshop days; breakfast and dinner are included for those staying in a Meredith dormitory when requested with this registration.
