'TACKLE THE EOG' PEP RALLY MOTIVATES CARVER STUDENTS

G.W. Carver Elementary School students cheered and waved yellow pom-poms at a "Tackle the EOG" pep rally Wednesday afternoon. The students are gearing up for end-of-grade tests, which begin Tuesday. "I think it helps them get motivated just to do their best," said Carver Principal William Ellis. "It gives them a chance to get loud and just to have a good time." "T-A-C-K-L-E!" the cheerleaders from SouthWest Edgecombe High School, chanted. A "Tackle the EOG Championship" between the third, fourth and fifth grade teachers contributed to the upbeat, competitive spirit at the pep rally. The teachers went through an obstacle course of mental and physical challenges, suited up like a football player, and ran to the end of the other side of the gymnasium to score a "touchdown." The third grade team, led by pep rally coordinator Lori Anderson, won the championship. "It shows how much their teachers work for them and support them in what they're doing," said Ellis. He said the football-themed pep rally also helps the students understand that "we're all in this together. We're one team in Carver."
