SAMET TO BUILD NEW 'AEROTROPOLIS ACADEMY' IN HIGH POINT

The expansion of Phoenix Academy is expected to boost the Triad's aviation work force, which would benefit employers such as TIMCO, above. Samet Corp. has been tapped as the contractor to build the new high school expansion of the High Point public charter school Phoenix Academy, according to school officials.Paul Norcross, co-founder of Phoenix Academy, said the school intends to invest a total of $13 million in the new campus on a 42-acre parcel on Clinard Farms Road plus improvements to its existing campus at Mendhenhall Business Park, which will continue to serve lower grades. The ground-breaking will likely take place this fall, Norcross said.Phoenix Academy has been a K-5 school but is adding middle school grades this year and plans to take its first high school students in the fall of 2014. Its high school will be known as the "Aerotropolis Academy" and will offer a curriculum aimed at getting high school students ready for either advanced education or immediate employment in the Triad's growing aviation industry.The prospect of an expanded pipeline of skilled workers is exciting to some in the local aviation industry.
