DEAF & HARD-OF-HEARING

The Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Program serves as a resource to local education agencies and the two schools for the deaf. Consultants for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Program are available for consultation in program planning and development, training, mentoring and technical assistance that lead to a quality education for students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.

The NC Dept of Public Instruction, Exceptional Children's Division now contains the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Support Program." "This program, previously known as the Resource Support Program with the Office of Education Services, joined the EC Division in October 2010." The newly formed Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Support Program serves as a resource to local education agencies and the two schools for the deaf.

For assistance with policies for serving students who are deaf or hard of hearing or to access the list serves for professionals who serve students with hearing loss, contact Dr. Ragin. She will also serve as liaison to the NC School for the Deaf and the Eastern NC School for the Deaf. For technical assistance/consultation in LEAs, contact Ms. Heavner who will coordinate consulting teachers and technical assistance visits. LISTSERV FOR ALL EDUCATIONAL INTERPRETERS & DEAF EDUCATORS
DPI announces the establishment of two listervs. You can join this listserv for either Educational Interpreters and Transliterators or Deaf Educators and Professional working with children with hearing loss by following the directions below.

  1. Send an email to join-interpreter@lists.dpi.state.nc.us (Educational Interpreters and Transliterators)(and/or join-hearingeducation@lists.dpi.state.nc.us (Deaf educators and professionals) from the email you wish to receive information.
  2. You will receive an email from the list serve directing you to click a link for the final process. Once you click the link the process is completed.
  3. You will receive an email stating that you are now a member of the specific list serve.
