Regional Teacher of the Year Honors

The state finalists are honored in April/May at a Teacher of the Year ceremony. State Regional Finalists also receive the following:

  • • One-time stipend of $5000
  • • Framed certificates
  • • Partial technology package from SMART Technologies
  • • Opportunities to present and facilitate at local and state meetings/programs
  • • Appointment to the Superintendent's Teacher Advisory Board
  • • Financial support to attend one national professional conference
  • • The opportunity to attend a seminar at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT)
  • • Opportunities to have direct communication between state education leaders and policymakers
  • • Opportunities to promote the North Carolina Teacher of the Year network
  • • Opportunities to enhance the profession of teaching with substitute, travel and subsistence provided by the state


State Teacher of the Year Honors

  • One-time stipend of $7500
  • • Use of a State vehicle for one year
  • • A Technology Package from the SMART Technologies
  • • Ceremonies with the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the State Board of Education, and other government officials
  • • Appointment to the North Carolina State Board of Education for two years
  • • International trip provided by the North Carolina Center for International Understanding
  • • Appointment to education advisory committees and boards including the Superintendent's Teacher Advisory Board
  • • The opportunity to attend a seminar at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT)
  • • Appearances before and participation in state-wide professional meetings
  • • The opportunity to be a full-time ambassador for education for one year while serving the state as a Teacher on Loan
  • • Nomination as North Carolina's candidate in the National Teacher of the Year Program
  • • Attendance at the National Teacher of the Year Conference
  • • International Space Camp
  • • Participation in Education Policy Fellowship Program (EPFP) and the Institute of Educational Leadership Conference
