Success for Out of School Youth
North Carolina is a recipient of a Consortium Incentive Grant, Success for Out of School Youth (SOSY), and participated in the Opportunities for Out of School Youth Consortium, which led to the the development of materials on the OSY website. The materials are free for your use and range from recruitment ideas to MP3 files for teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

Out of School Youth (OSY) are a rapidly growing group of Migrant students in the North Carolina Migrant Education Program. Most of our OSY students are "here-to-work" and have limited time to participate in classes. While many programs have compiled vast collections of resources for working with OSY, other programs are newcomers to the field. The links below may be of use to your program as you develop instructional services for OSY. This resource will be frequently updated, as new links and materials are discovered.

Migrant ESL Resource Booklet
This is a 100-page bilingual resource for ESL. Some of the information is specific to Michigan, but there is a wealth of great general information and material for students.

USA Learns
A free internet resource for adult ESL.

Health Education

The National Center for Farmworker Health
Health education materials and programs are described. Some materials are available to use with students. The site also has downloadable fact sheets that could serve as a springboard for lessons.

Information on Road Signs and Driving

This site has a section on traffic signs, including flash cards and bingo games.
