ADVANCED CERTIFICATION FOR PRINCIPALS

UPDATE FROM THE NATIONAL BOARD FOR PROFESSIONAL TEACHING STANDARDS

Source: National Board for Professional Teaching Standards

After completion of pilot and field testing, our Board of Directors voted to discontinue development of the principal certification. The pilot and field testing program conducted over the past several years revealed insurmountable issues around the assessment's design, validity, and reliability. Our leadership worked hard to explore the feasibility of reworking and relaunching the program; unfortunately, we have determined those challenges cannot be overcome at this time.

The National Board remains committed to working with the two leading principal organizations to explore options to design and determine feasibility of other programs that support excellence in school leadership. New programs may include standards- based assessments that lead to advanced credentialing, as well as professional development built on our Accomplished Principal Standards, which were developed by this initiative and remain valuable to the school leadership field.
