2007 N.C. SCHOOL REPORT CARDS AVAILABLE ONLINE

The N.C. Department of Public Instruction launched the 2007 N.C. School Report Cards this morning, providing parents, educators and others with access to a variety of information about how the state's schools and school districts are performing on various measures.

Local schools will be distributing Snapshots of the report cards to parents across the state beginning today. The Report Cards and Snapshots are available online at www.ncreportcards.org and provide a variety of search capabilities.

State Board of Education Chairman Howard Lee said, "Providing the state Report Cards each year requires the collaboration of educators statewide. I congratulate them on another successful State Report Cards launch and encourage them to use this information as they work together to improve schools."

"The Report Cards are a wonderful tool for parents seeking information on their child's school. They also provide an excellent starting point for parents and educators wanting to affect change in their schools," said State Superintendent June Atkinson.

The N.C. School Report Cards have been produced annually since 2001. The most current and comparable information about local schools, districts and the state overall is provided in this online resource. Users of the report cards can search by school or school system name, by using a North Carolina map, or by a list of the state's 115 school districts. Advanced search capabilities allow for customized searches.
