Reach Every Military Child in North Carolina (Reach MCNC) has received a 2011 LTG Pete Taylor Partnership of Excellence Award from the national Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) for its outstanding service to military children.

"North Carolina is home to many men and women who bravely serve our country, and their families make great sacrifices for our freedom," said State Board of Education Chairman Bill Harrison. "We are proud of Reach MCNC and are grateful for its work in providing children from these families the resources and support they need to overcome unique challenges and achieve academic success."

The N.C. Department of Public Instruction, the N.C. National Guard and Reserves, and military school liaison officers from Fort Bragg, Pope Air Force Base, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, and Marine Corps Air Station New River joined together to create Reach MCNC in September 2010 to meet the needs of military children in public schools across the state.

Reach MCNC was the only program to receive the 2011 Outstanding Partnership Award and was one of six programs from across the nation recognized by General (Ret.) Stanley McChrystal and LTG (Ret.) Pete Taylor at MCEC’s annual conference last week in Nashville, Tenn. Reach MCNC assists districts with school transition services, deployment support, command, school and community communication. The organization also serves as a resource for information about Military Impact Aid, the NC Memorandum of Agreement, the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children, and NC National Guard Family Assistance Centers.

"The MCEC proudly salutes the remarkable difference that these schools and military installations are making in the lives of military children," said Dr. Mary Keller, president and CEO of the MCEC. "By partnering in unique and innovative ways, these military and education leaders follow the example set by General Taylor and remind us once again of the impact that we as a community can have on each military child."

The Military Child Education Coalition works to address challenges in military and educational communities and focuses on all military installations, their supporting schools and concerned organizations and individuals. The MCEC LTG Pete Taylor Partnership of Excellence Award is sponsored by Walmart and was created in 2004 to recognize the work of former MCEC Chairman Lieutenant General (Ret.) Pete Taylor in assisting the highly-mobile military child. Award winners are selected by MCEC from schools and military installations around the world.
