NEWS RELEASES 2012-13 :: NOVEMBER 9, 2012

Educators from each local school district and school in North Carolina have been invited to attend regional meetings November 19 through December 11 to learn more and have questions answered about the ongoing implementation this year of the state's READY initiative. READY focuses on success for every student now with an eye toward keen preparation for the future.

The first round of NC READY regional meetings, held in the spring, focused largely on the 'why' of the initiative – why North Carolina educators are implementing the new Common Core and Essential Standards, as well as discussions on how educator evaluations, student achievement and accountability will now be measured.

This round will provide participants more time to discuss the 'how' of incorporating the new Common Core, and to receive up-to-date information on educator evaluation and the new, streamlined instructional improvement system called Home Base. This easy-to-use cyberspace will allow educators to log-in once for quick access to all kinds of tools such as lesson plans, a tracking system for student progress, attendance and grades, and more.

READY meeting participants will be encouraged to ask questions, talk with one another and exchange ideas.

State Superintendent June Atkinson said, "We are excited to join our principals, teachers and superintendents across the state once again to give them the opportunity to learn more about the remodeling education efforts that are under way. The READY initiative is a comprehensive approach to remodeling our schools for optimum student success, so communication across the state is vital."

Principals have been invited to bring one teacher to these sessions, and district invitations also have been sent to superintendents, and directors of curriculum and instruction, human resources and instructional technology.

Here is the Fall 2012 READY Outreach Meetings schedule. Each session is 9 a.m.-noon and 1:30-4:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted:
