eLEARNING FOR EDUCATORS

Discover the advantages of earning renewal credit online. eLearning for Educators online professional development lets participants work and learn at a time and location most convenient to them, while fostering a comfortable, welcoming learning community through continual communication and discussion.

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction has partnered with eLearning for Educators to offer North Carolina teachers online professional development courses. Courses are taught by expert instructors who have demonstrated their superior subject knowledge through their research and advanced coursework.

  • Convenient format: The asynchronous format allows teachers to participate at a time and place that is most convenient for their schedule, when they have the most time and energy.

  • Cost-effective courses: eLearning for Educators online courses eliminate travel and substitute teacher expenses.

  • Valuable content: eLearning for Educators has designed several courses that focus on critical need areas, including improving the teaching in core areas and closing the achievement gap for minority students. Courses are available in most subject areas.

  • Moodle Training: eLearning for Educators is the statewide provider of the Teaching Online learning management system. All public schools in North Carolina can offer online courses on eLearning for Educators’s Moodle platform after completing an online Teaching Online course.

  • Online teacher training: North Carolina teachers can now earn a eLearning for Educators Certificate in online instruction through the Teaching Online. In five core courses and two electives, totaling a minimum of 17 CEUs, teachers can master the component skills of online teaching: effective collaboration and facilitation, creating learning communities, navigating the virtual classroom, and developing student-centered instruction.

  • Trusted partnerships: North Carolina e-Learning for Educators courses align statewide leaders in professional development to produce high-quality, cost-effective professional development. The Department of Public Instruction, eLearning for Educators, UNC-TV, The Friday Institute for Educational Innovation at the North Carolina State University College of Education, and the North Carolina Virtual Public School have collaborated on a series of courses that will bolster content knowledge and classroom technology integration. This material is based upon work supported by the U.S. Department of Education under Grant No. U286A050018.

eLearning for Educators has many professional development courses to choose from and there is still time to enroll in courses starting in October. The following are selected examples of course offerings:

  • Teaching Online Courses - Have you ever thought about taking your teaching into a new realm - the online classroom? This course prepares educators interested in teaching online courses for the virtual classroom. It is also a great overview for administrators interested in implementing online courses into their K-12 or professional development offerings.

  • American Indians in North Carolina - In this course you’ll explore American Indian history in North Carolina from the earliest evidence of human habitation in the state through first contact with Europeans, the Trail of Tears, the Great Depression, the Civil Rights Movement, and into the present day.

  • Assessment and Evaluation in Your Online Course - In this course you will take a close look at assessment options, think about how assessment reflects teaching practices, and devise authentic assessment tools. Through discussions and peer reviews, you and your peers will focus on creating quality online assessment activities and assessment tools.
