21st Century Learning: Putting on Global Lenses
Kindergarten-12th, Social Studies, DPI
The course will examine local and global educational trends and enable teachers to recognize the in?uences of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, and other aspects of culture on a student's development, personality and school performance. It will also aid teachers in considering and incorporating different points of view in their instructional planning. Components of the training will assist teachers in providing evidence for Standards II, III, and IV of the Teacher Evaluation Tool.


Responsiveness to Instruction
Kindergarten-12th, Responsiveness to Instruction, DPI
Professional development is designed to prepare LEA and school teams on the basic foundation and implementation strategies of Responsiveness to Instruction (RtI). The training consists of a series of modules that cover the following topics: Problem-Solving; Functional Assessment; Instruction and Interventions in Reading, Math and Positive Behavior Support: School Presentations; Planning; and Resources.


Positive Behavior Support (PBIS)
Kindergarten-12th, Leadership, DPI
PBIS training provides systematic and individualized strategies for achieving important social and learning outcomes while preventing problem behavior with all students. Training is conducted with school teams that are representative of the staff at their home schools. By training school teams in the principles and practices of PBIS, schools are able to design a system for teaching and encouraging respectful & responsible behaviors, use data to support decision making and continuous improvement, and create an individualized total school climate that supports staff and student behavior and encourages family engagement. The team attends three two-day-each modules to learn the information needed to begin PBIS implementation at their school. They assign team roles, determine effective data management strategies and begin to build a repertoire of behavior management skills. The team determines how to integrate the use of research-based behavior strategies in their school setting to decrease negative behaviors while increasing positive behaviors and student achievement. Archaelogy and North Carolina's First Peoples
Kindergarten-12th, Leadership, LEARN NC
This online course explores the science of archaeology and North Carolina's human past. Participants will be introduced to inquiry-based activities that can be adapted to meet their own teaching objectives. The course is open to educators of all subjects and grade levels.


Collaboration and Teaching in a Virtual World - Carolina Online Teacher Program
Kindergarten-12th, 21st Century Skills, LEARN NC
Whether they're assisting teammates in a tactical military battle in Halo or working together in the depths of a dungeon to slay a monster in World of Warcraft, our students are well-acquainted with collaboration in a virtual environment. In this course, you'll explore the online world known as Second Life, learning its communication systems, avatar creation, and how it can enhance student collaboration.


Designing a Virtual Field Trip

Use internet resources to design a “virtual field trip” for your students. You'll study strategies and resources to create effective and engaging learning experiences for your students that are aligned to state and national standards.


Integrating Primary Sources into the Social Studies Classroom
7th-12th, Social Studies, LEARN NC
Promote 21st century skills such as critical thinking and media literacy by infusing your curriculum with primary sources. Find out how you can incorporate these challenging, engaging materials into your teaching. You'll develop a personal collection of web-based resources for curricular use, as well as create preliminary plans to enhance a curriculum unit.


Learning and Teaching with Web 2.0 Tools

In this workshop, participants will be exposed to many of the tools of the Read/Write Web and will get the chance to experiment with new tools each week.


Teaching World Languages Online - Carolina Online Teacher Program
