

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Corrective Action is a significant intervention in a school that is designed to remedy the school's persistent inability to make adequetely yearly progress (USED Non-Regulatory Guidance). If a school that receives Title I, Part A funds does not achieve its annual progress targets for four years, the LEA must identify the school for corrective action.
The LEA must take at least one of the following corrective actions (in addition to the continuation of school choice and supplemental education services):
- Provide, for all relevant staff, appropriate, scientifically, research-based professional development that may improve academic achievement of low-performing students.
- Align instruction with and fully implement the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, including providing appropriate professional development.
- Extend the length of the school year or school day.
- Replace the school staff members who are relevant to the school's not making AYP.
- Significantly decrease management authority at the school.
- Appoint an outside expert to advise the school.
- Restructure the school's internal organization.
