Shall advise the State Board of Education (SBE) on any revision being considered to the components of the Basic Education Program. | 13 members who are appointed by the SBE. Eight are local school board members who are submitted to the SBE by the NC School Boards' Association (NCSBA). |
| Board of Governors for the Governor's Schools (SBE Policy HSA-D-009) | Recommends policies that govern the administration and supervision of the Governors School,s and for reviewing all phases of the school's operation. | 12 members recommended by the State Superintendent for no more than 2 consecutive 3 year terms. |

Compliance Commission for Accountability (State Board Action, 7/5/96) |
Advises the SBE on testing and other issues related to school accountability and improvement | The State Superintendent recommends to the Board the 22 members, 2 members are chosen from each of the education districts and 6 members are at-large The members serve staggered 4 year terms. |

Council on Educational Services for Exceptional Children (G.S. 115C-121) |
Advises SBE with respect to the unmet needs to children with special needs and in developing and implementing of policies related to the coordination of services for disabled students; advises the SBE with respect to developing evaluations and reporting on data, and developing corrective action plans to address findings in federal monitoring comments. | 23 members, the majority being parents of /or individuals with disabilities. 13 members appointed by the SBE, 4 members designated by IDEA, 2 appointed by the Speaker of the House, 2 appointed by the Pres. Pro Tem of the Senate, 2 appointed by the Governor. |

Liaison Committee of the State Board of Education, Board of
Governors, and Community Colleges (1986, Task Force on the Preparation of Teachers) |
Encourages dialogue and develops consensus on education policy issues that affect the three education systems. | 10 members with 3 from each board appointed by the boards, and 1 from private colleges. Appointments are made by respective boards as needed. |

NC Professionl
Teaching Standards Commission (G.S. 115C-295.1) |
Establishes high standards for NC's teachers and the teaching profession. | There are 16 members, appointed for 2-year terms. The Governor appoints 8 members(4 teachers from a list submitted by the SBE, 1 principal, 1 superintendent, 2 reps from schools of education. The Pres. Pro tem of the Senate appoints 4 members (3 teachers and one at-large member) and the Speaker of the House appoints 4 members (3 teachers and one at-large member) |

Principal Fellows Program (G.S. 116-74.41) |
Provides support to a 2 year scholarship loan to selected recipients to persons eligible to be school administrators in the public schools of the state. Determines criteria, etc. for selection | 12 members appointed for four year terms as follows: 1 member from the UNC Board of Governors, 1 member of the SBE, 2 deans from schools of ed appointed by the UNC President, 1 teacher appointed by the Senate President Pro Tem, 1 principal appointed by the Speaker of the House, 1 local superintendent appointed by the State Supt., 1 business and industry rep appointed by the Governor, 1 local school board member appointed by the chair of the SBE, the chairperson of the State Education Assistance Authority, and the director of the Principal Fellows Program. |

School Technology Commission (G.S. 115C 102.5) |
Analyzes the current use of technology in the schools, identifies instructional goals that can be met through technology and proposes state school technology. The Commission also oversees the State Technology Plan. | 16 members who serve 2 year terms. Appointments are made by the Governor, General Assembly, UNC, Community Colleges and the State Superintendent, and the Sec. Of Commerce, the Sec. Of Health and Human Services or a designee. |

State Advisory Council on Indian Education (G.S. 115C-210) |
Advises the SBE on ways to more effectively meet the educational needs of Indian students and to advocate for meaningful programs and high standards for American Indian students. | 13 members appointed by the President Pro Tem, the Speaker of the House, and the NC Commission on Indian Affairs. Membership includes parents, educators, rep. From the UNC Board of Governors, rep. From the NC Comm. On Indian Affairs, rep. From the House of Rep. And the Senate. |

State Evaluation Committee on Teacher Evaluation (G.S. 115c-12(9)a) |
Reviews funding related to the compliance of IHEs with SBE rules for the approval of teacher education programs and makes reports and reviews to the SBE regarding teacher education programs. | 18 members who serve 3 year terms. The SBE appoints and reappoints 6 members annually in May. |

Textbook Commission (G.S. 115C-87) |
Evaluates textbooks and recommends to the SBE which textbooks should be included on the state textbook list. | 23 members appointed for four year terms by the Governor upon the recommendation of the State Superintendent |
