Weekly Message for Superintendents: Tuesday, May 26, 2015

NOTE :: Various file formats are used on this page that may require download. If larger than 1mb, it will take longer to download. For instructions or more information, please visit our download page.

On Friday, we will hold our next legislative webinar to recap where things stand with the state budget and other items in legislation (see item below for registration details). The House budget details are encouraging, and I look forward to seeing the Senate's budget and how the final 2015-17 budget will shape up. The decisions being made in Raleigh will make a significant difference in your students' lives, in your schools' and district's success and in our professional opportunities. As the school year winds down and many of you look forward to a summer schedule, please continue to watch the legislature's activities and to communicate your schools' needs. As we move into summer, we may move the webinar date to another day of the week since some districts move to a four-day work week in the summer. Please think about your summer schedule and plan to let us know of the best day of the week for webinars if your district moves to a four-day week.

June Atkinson
State Superintendent

College Board AP Invoices Due May 29

As part of North Carolina's Advanced Placement Partnership, the NCDPI is paying for eligible students' test fees for this school year. In order for staff to process the payment for your students' test fees, all invoices must be submitted to College Board by May 29. AP School Coordinators and AP District Coordinators have been made aware of this deadline and have received directions for this process. It is very important that this deadline is met, so that staff can process payment before the fiscal year ends. If the invoices are not submitted, NCDPI staff cannot guarantee payment of your students' test fees. Please contact Sneha Shah-Coltrane, director of Advanced Learning, at sneha.shahcoltrane@dpi.nc.gov for more information.

Public School Educator Effectiveness Data Available

Summary results of teacher and administrator educator effectiveness data for the 2013-14 school year are now available online at www.ncpublicschools.org/effectiveness-model/data/. It is important to note that the data reported is in aggregate or summary form only. The reports do not include information on individual teachers or administrators. Such data is considered confidential personnel information.

The evaluation results for teachers are presented at the school, district and state levels only. The results for administrators (principals and assistant principals) are presented at the district and state levels only. A minimum of five administrators in one district must have been evaluated on any standard in order for aggregate results to be reported at the district and state levels. A minimum of five teachers in a school must have been evaluated on any one standard in order for aggregate results to be reported at the school, district and state levels.

The online data display is intended to provide a resource that is user-friendly and accessible so that parents, educators and members of the school community can see data reflecting the effectiveness of instruction in the school. This information also can illustrate how schools and districts are using evaluation data to ensure a stronger teaching and administrative staff. Questions regarding the evaluation reports or about the process for their release can be sent to educatoreffectiveness@dpi.nc.gov.
