Update on NC Digital Learning Plan

The NC Digital Learning Plan team has provided an update to both the NC State Board of Education at their June meeting and to the NC School Boards Association at their Summer Leadership Seminar. Attached is an updated PDF of those presentations, where staff provided the first summary of data from the NC Digital Learning Progress Rubric completed by every district and 120 charter schools. Thank you for your leadership in getting the rubric completed so that an updated statewide snapshot could be developed to prioritize resources and sequence of steps for the NC Digital Learning Plan.

RttT Progress Report Reminder

All LEAs and charter schools that received a no-cost extension to complete activities in their RttT Detailed Scope of Work for 2014-15 must complete an RttT Progress Report for 2014-15 by July 31. To complete the report, you will once again utilize a web-based reporting tool - your LEA/charter school RttT lead has access to this tool. As in prior year reports, your LEA/charter school will need to describe the progress you made in completing the 2014-15 activities in your DSW. Please work with your LEA/charter school regional lead to ensure that the RttT Progress Report is completed by July 31

Facility Needs' Survey

Every five years, local public school boards of education are required by NC G.S. §115C‑521(a) to submit their Facility Needs Assessment (long‑range plans) to the State Board of Education. It is once again time to submit this information. NCDPI's School Planning Section will soon distribute the reporting system (computer program) to each LEA. The data is due to DPI on or before Jan. 8, 2016. Certification by the local board of education, and acknowledgment by the board of county commissioners, will be necessary. This survey will differ from prior editions in that additional data will be requested regarding utility costs and unmet facility needs beyond the capacity of local districts to fund. The latter is in preparation for possible state funding in addition to the lottery. If you have any questions, please contact Ken Phelps at or 919.807.3561, or Ron Collier at or 919.807.3562.
